About The Position

The Auburn Hills Police Department (AHPD) provides the highest level of professional law enforcement services to the residents, businesses, students and visitors to the City of Auburn Hills. In 2019, AHPD became one of 19 police agencies out of more than 400 in the State of Michigan to become voluntarily accredited. This accreditation standard means that AHPD is continually striving to meet and exceed the best practice standards for law enforcement that have been established through the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. The department handles nearly 30,000 calls for service annually in service to a 16.64 square mile jurisdiction with more than 25,000 residents. AHPD prides itself on a community policing oriented approach to law enforcement with personnel routinely interacting with people in the city, hosting trainings around the city and providing a wide variety of law enforcement related programs. Our mission is to continually improve the safety and quality of life within our community, through a broad base of traditional and innovative services while protecting constitutional and basic human rights. All members of this department will at all times stand accountable for their conduct. General Purpose: This is a part-time, non-sworn, uniform position in the Support Services Division. The Cadet Program is designed to expose Criminal Justice college students to police work. This is accomplished by training and equipping the cadets in Community Policing, Problem Oriented Policing, and exposing them to opportunities within the Department. The program places cadets within the department where there is currently a need for their services, along with maintaining 24/7 service at the front desk.

Nice To Haves

• (A) Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and currently enrolled in a criminal justice program or related field of study; students enrolled in other programs must be preapproved by the Chief of Police or designee
• (B) Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
• (C) Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern police practices and procedures.
• (D) Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations
