About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to assist the Police Department in providing administrative and low risk services that are often handled by police officers to free them up to handle higher priority and higher risk calls. This classification does not have arrest powers and does not carry weapons.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Ability to operate a computer and office equipment is required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written skills are preferred.
  • Applicants must pass a background investigation to include polygraph examination.

Responsibilities

  • Takes police incident reports from citizens in person or by telephone.
  • Completes incident reports including submission through the Records Management System.
  • Prepares correspondence, reads training material, participates in classes, meetings and direct contact with citizens.
  • Safely operates County vehicles pursuant to the County's Vehicle Driver Policy.
  • Complies with all safety regulations including successful completion of the Driver Safety Class.
  • Assists officers with impounding vehicles after the officer has signed the impound form authorizing the impound.
  • Assists officers with the collection and preservation of evidence and property under the supervision of the officer or case detective.
  • Handles private property accidents without injuries.
  • Handles routine theft reports.
  • Handles harassing and or obscene phone call reports.
  • Handles similar low risk calls.
  • Assists with missing person searches.
  • Provides traffic control support for officers.
  • Monitors security cameras.
  • Transports and places speed detection trailers and message board signs and other equipment.
  • Responds to and handles non-emergency calls of a low risk nature.
  • Staffs watch offices at Headquarters and the precincts.
  • Operates Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) computers after certification.
  • Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, or other software programs.
  • Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for low risk service or assistance.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of applicable codes, laws, and regulations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle and work space, requests service and/or repairs as needed; maintains equipment in functional and presentable condition.
  • Substitutes for co-workers in temporary absence of same; performs other administrative tasks as assigned.
