About The Position

The position involves answering telephone calls related to known or suspected poisonings, advising on treatment, and triaging patients to the appropriate level of care. The role also includes participation in data collection and reporting efforts, public education programs, and research initiatives. Additionally, the individual will act as a mentor for training staff and healthcare professional rotators, while providing shift and quality improvement supervision of the center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Familiarity with advanced aspects of pharmacology, toxicology, and clinical patient management.
  • Knowledge of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of medications.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with computer data entry and retrieval.
  • Ability to assess severity of exposures and placate victims and families.
  • Ability to assess, prioritize, triage, and communicate effectively with the general public and healthcare professionals.
  • Teaching skills necessary to train students, residents, and new staff.
  • Shift supervisory skills and quality improvement auditing abilities.
  • AAPCC Certified Specialist in Poison Information certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure to practice nursing, pharmacy, medicine, or as a physician's assistant in the State of Florida.
