The Point of Care Technician position, located in the Emergency Department, operates under the assessment and direction of a Staff Nurse (RN) and adheres to established policies and procedures. This role involves performing patient care activities to assist healthcare providers with various technical and clerical procedures within the patient care area, and also supports the nursing staff, patients, physicians, other hospital departments, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide patient care activities under the direct supervision of licensed personnel
  • Ability to accurately obtain and record patient specific data
  • Ability to utilize service recovery techniques and escalate patient/visitor issues when necessary
  • Ability to safely lift, transfer, and transport patients
  • Ability to attend all required safety/emergency/infection control training programs and describe related responsibilities
  • Ability to demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees
  • Ability to promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a department/unit team
  • Ability to complete tasks delegated by the RN
  • Competency in device usage
  • Competency in the skills of patient of care testing
  • Ability to use electronic medical record, document within forms and scan as appropriate

Responsibilities

  • Greets customers courteously
  • Identifies self and area and uses professional telephone etiquette
  • Relays messages timely and accurately
  • Acts as resource person to staff and support services
  • Uses electronic medical record, documents within forms and scans as appropriate
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide patient care under the direct supervision of licensed personnel
  • Accurately obtain and record patient specific data
  • Utilizes service recovery techniques when appropriate and escalates patient/visitor issues when necessary
  • Lifts, transfers, transport patients safely
  • Attends all required safety/emergency/infection control training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary
  • Completes tasks delegated by the RN
  • Demonstrates competency in device usage
  • Demonstrates competency in the skills of patient of care testing
