Job Summary: Prioritizes and performs a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on various biological specimens. Reviews, evaluates, documents and reports results. Preserves confidentiality of patients and follows lab safety and maintenance protocols. Trains and supervises trainees, laboratory assistants and clerks as needed. Maintains responsibility for the overall operation of all Point of Care Testing (POCT) activities for the assigned region in consultation with and under the direction of Medical Directors (Pathologists), the Clinical Laboratory Directors, and the POCT Committees and Nursing Leadership. Assumes responsibility for the selection of the appropriate instrumentation or test methodologies, developing and maintaining appropriate POCT quality assurance program, monitoring testing and QA processes including recording and reporting of results, ensuring program compliance with applicable regulations and safe working environment. Collaborates with staff who supervise point of care testing in their respective departments and develops training and competencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, allied health technology or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) licensure in the state of practice: Required in CA
  • Valid Driver’s License (DL) and must be at least 21 yrs of age or older: Required

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Five years' related experience: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests on various biological specimens.
  • Performs calibration, quality control and maintenance procedures on laboratory instruments.
  • Responsibile of all point of care testing in consultation with and under the direction of Medical Directors (Pathologists), the Clinical Laboratory Directors, and the POCT Committees and Nursing Leadership.
  • Maintains quality assurance program and CLIA standards ensuring program compliance with applicable regulations and safe working environment.
  • Ensures training and competencies are complete and grants access to qualified staff.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
