Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary: Point of Care Coordinator oversees the daily operations of Point of Care testing. This individual works in conjunction with Medical Director and Laboratory Administrative Director to ensure that QC, PM, procedures and competencies are performed and documented correctly. This individual maintains the equipment, Policy and Procedure manuals and all required documentation for Point of Care testing required by regulatory agencies such as , College of American Pathologists (CAP) and The Joint Commission (TJC).

Requirements

  • Bachelors Medical Technology Required
  • MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist or MLT(AMT) - Medical Laboratory Technician
  • MT or equivalent from an accrediting agency approved by the Georgia Department of Community Health. (ASCP, HEW, AMT, AAB or another agency approved by the Georgia Dept of Community Health) Required and AAB certified individuals must have completed a formalized training program that includes clinical rotations Required and Persons who possess the technologist qualifications and have recently moved into the state or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified once as technologists for eighteen (18) months to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination. within 1-1/2 Yrs Required
  • Three years of Med Tech Experience Required
  • Independent judgment, analytic priority-setting, troubleshooting, technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations of waived and non-waived laboratory testing in areas other than the main laboratory.
  • Work with nursing personnel, care givers, medical providers and act as a department resource.
  • Maintains open dialog with staff at testing locations, working to identify and resolve Point of Care Testing (POCT) issues.
  • Monitor operations with attention to detail and use problem solving skills to assist quality patient care.
  • Work without direct supervision, be self-directed and can prioritize tasks to support efficient and effective operations.
  • Participates in decisions regarding implementation of POCT in new locations, with evaluation of need, expense, logistics and customer service advantages of requested tests.
  • Performs POCT and other laboratory testing and related correlation procedures according to site and system-approved protocols.
  • Coordinates the evaluation of potential POC testing systems and performance of appropriate comparative studies.
  • Coordinates the validation and implementation of new equipment and test methods.
  • Coordinates 6-month correlation studies for all appropriate analyzers and analytes.
  • Writes new equipment or test method procedures for approval by the system POCT medical directors.
  • Maintains competency to perform laboratory testing in other departments of the laboratory as needed, per individual facility.
  • Trains new Lab employees on use of lab computer system
  • Serve as resource for staff for IT issues.
  • Performs operational duties as assigned.
  • Provides application implementation support as assigned by their manager.
  • Understands Laboratory workflows, and is able to trouble shoot and resolve minor operational workflow issues as they arise.
  • Monitors instrument interface status
  • Provides assistance with purchasing and requisitions applications Maintains site equipment, supplies and monitors service contracts to support laboratory services budget.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all POCT equipment and systems.
  • Acts as a resource for troubleshooting analyzer concerns and can assist users in separating patient sample and quality control issues from analyzer failures.
  • Coordinate replacement of defective instruments in a timely manner to reduce impact on patient care.
  • Monitors test reagent supply levels and coordinates validation of acceptability before release for patient testing.
  • Oversees nursing staff training and competency assessments in all areas of POCT
  • Develops and implements comprehensive training programs to meet regulatory training requirements.
  • Monitors appropriateness of staff to perform patient testing and requires staff re-training, as needed.
  • Work with POCT vendors to obtain expert trainer assistance for WellStar users.
  • Maintains proficiency testing program to encompass all users and regulatory requirements Performs site quality management activities for testing, policies, accreditation and licensure
  • Tracks appropriate Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement indicators to assure compliance with POCTpolicies.
  • Is proficient with computer software necessary for data management and document/ spreadsheet reports
  • Monitors compliance with WellStar Patient Safety policies and all regulatory standards for patient safety.
  • Submits reports and implements corrective action plans for testing areas that demonstrate problems achieving acceptable levels of compliance with testing regulations and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
