Under direct supervision, this job applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields. You'll get exposure to real projects and challenges in an innovative and fast-paced environment while you gain professional experience at an operating two-unit nuclear power facility. You will also participate in engaging summer events plus work on projects with other interns and employees beyond your core work area. You will work on small projects or portions of larger projects. You will support and job shadow plant operations and maintenance personnel, conduct analysis on system performance and reliability strategies, and provide recommendations for improvements. This posting includes internships in the engineering department and our disciplines of need are civil/structural, electrical/instrumentation & controls, mechanical, and nuclear engineering. Candidates must have cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered.

Requirements

  • High school grad / GED.
  • Maintain active enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree program.
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Planned curriculum program of courses for a particular discipline of noted need: Structural analysis, concrete and steel design, seismic design and construction materials, piping design and analysis.
  • High-voltage equipment and electrical distribution systems, power system protection and fault analysis.
  • Control systems, automation, electrical circuits, signal processing and instrumentation.
  • Fluid Dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, hydraulics, familiarity with pumps and valves.
  • Nuclear reactor theory and operations, thermodynamics, reactor cooling systems, dose calculation and radiation detection instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard engineering practices and techniques to specific engineering situations.
  • Participate in the analysis and evaluation of engineering problems associated with assigned engineering discipline while developing and testing optimum solutions.
  • Evaluate data and recognize discrepancies in results.
  • Prepare and present reports summarizing results of technical evaluations and recommendations.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with other engineering departments and with other company departments.
  • Review station issues and develop resolutions.
  • Acquire knowledge of an operating nuclear power plant through team interaction and self-directed training.
  • Learn safe work practices at the plant and industrial settings.
  • Collaborate with other interns and departments on projects.
  • Conduct field walkdowns with various departments.
  • Interact and remotely support engineering functions at other NextEra nuclear plants and the corporate office.
  • Support six sigma quality projects and learn the tools.
