About The Position

Working from a solutions-oriented approach, the staff Podiatrist treats a variety of foot and ankle ailments including calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, and arch problems as well as foot and leg problems associated with diabetes and other diseases. These responsibilities include ensuring that podiatry is coordinated with the other clinical departments of Gracelight Community Health (“Gracelight”) in providing patients with a Patient Centered Medical Home. The position also serves as coach/mentor/trainer to other clinicians and clinical support staff, giving guidance in best practices, troubleshooting of medical services and operations related to Podiatry. The position reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer or designee. As staff Podiatrist, the incumbent will perform routine procedures using independent professional judgment in the practice of podiatry, within the scope of the laws of the state of California, the rules and regulations of the California Board of Health, and the policies of Gracelight.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited four-year post-graduate degree program, earning a Doctor of Podiatry (DPM) degree required.
  • Licensure by the California Board of Heath to practice in the State of California required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies and procedures, benefits information, benefit surveys, board minutes, routine mail, simple contracts, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with employees, visitors and management.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Current, valid Podiatrist license in the State of California’s Board of Podiatric medicine.
  • Current DEA license and CPR required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years’ clinical work experience and two years’ experience managing a multi-provider practice preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and implements the organization’s vision, mission and values.
  • Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Performs all job functions in a professional and courteous manner. this includes answering all general phone calls timely and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Supervises personnel to include screening, interviewing, hiring, disciplining and terminating. Guides, directs, disciplines, coaches and motivates staff regarding work performance, problem solving and decision making to ensure staff meets work standards. Conducts all aspects of supervision in a professional, consistent and objective manner.
  • Performs job duties independently and exercises good judgment.
  • Fosters and promotes a culture of service excellence and accountability.
  • Assess the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles, or lower legs by reviewing his or her medical history, listening to the patient’s concerns and performing a physical examination as needed.
  • Diagnose foot, ankle, and lower-leg problems through local examination, x rays, medical laboratory tests, and other methods.
  • Provide treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, such as prescribing special shoe inserts (orthotics) to improve a patient’s mobility.
  • Perform ambulatory foot and ankle surgeries and correcting foot and ankle deformities within the scope of out-patient practice.
  • Give advice and instruction on foot and ankle care and on general wellness techniques and prescribe medications as needed.
  • Refer patients to other physicians or specialists if they detect larger health problems, such as diabetes.
  • Stays abreast of advances in podiatric medicine by attending trainings and conferences and read related material.
  • Provide podiatric support, counseling, and education in the management of common acute and chronic podiatric illnesses.
  • Make recommendations for promotion, commendation, or disciplinary action where necessary or appropriate.
  • Consults complex and high priority cases with the director, assistant director or physician on duty or with a specialist as needed.
  • Works as a member of the health care team and assists in education of patients and the target community in preventive health care and health maintenance concepts.
  • Demonstrates pattern of continued learning to ensure growth as a practitioner.
  • Attends internal and external meetings, workshops, and conferences, and participates on task forces or committees, as necessary and/or required by TVHC, Inc.
  • Performs all duties in support of successful EHR/EPM implementation.
  • Demonstrates commitment to, and understanding of, TVHC's Service Excellence Standards, by modeling service excellence in all internal and external relationships, addressing service excellence deficits in staff, and in performance of all duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Provides additional assistance within and outside of clinical arena, as requested and/or as appropriate, to ensure the ongoing success of the organization.
  • Must be willing and able to work at all locations as needed to meet patient care needs.
  • Must be willing and able to work all business hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
