Purpose of Position: Under general supervision, performs podiatric work in a health care setting, including providing medical and surgical care for people with foot, ankle, and lower leg problems. Acts in compliance with NYC Health + Hospitals, state, and other applicable rules and regulations, resulting in improved outcomes and patient experience; performs related work.

Requirements

  • Valid license and current registration to practice Podiatry issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

Responsibilities

  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats ailments of the human foot of patients by mechanical, chemical, and physical methods.
  • Treats a wound on the lower leg (at or below the level of the tibial tuberosity) that is related to a wound on the foot.
  • Performs a diagnostic debridement of the tibia or fibula through the wound being treated in order to ascertain whether the bone has become infected.
  • May perform minor surgery on the human foot for minor deformities of a mechanical and/or functional nature, including the structures superficial to the deep fascia and including all structures of the terminal phalanges.
  • Prescribes non-narcotic post-operative sedatives.
  • Prescribes corrective footwear.
