About The Position

The staff Podiatrist at Echo Park Health Center treats a variety of foot and ankle ailments, including calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, and arch problems, as well as foot and leg issues associated with diabetes and other diseases. This role involves coordinating podiatry services with other clinical departments to provide patients with a Patient Centered Medical Home. The Podiatrist also serves as a coach, mentor, and trainer to other clinicians and clinical support staff, guiding them in best practices and troubleshooting medical services related to Podiatry. The position reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer or designee and requires independent professional judgment in the practice of podiatry, adhering to California laws and Gracelight policies.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid California Podiatrist license.
  • Experience in treating a variety of foot and ankle ailments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to service excellence and patient-centered care.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a community health setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and implements the organization’s vision, mission and values.
  • Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Performs all job functions in a professional and courteous manner, including answering phone calls and providing excellent customer service.
  • Supervises personnel, including screening, interviewing, hiring, disciplining, and terminating staff.
  • Guides, directs, disciplines, coaches, and motivates staff regarding work performance and decision making.
  • Performs job duties independently and exercises good judgment.
  • Fosters and promotes a culture of service excellence and accountability.
  • Assesses the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles, or lower legs through medical history review and physical examination.
  • Diagnoses foot, ankle, and lower-leg problems through examination, x-rays, and laboratory tests.
  • Provides treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, including prescribing orthotics.
  • Performs ambulatory foot and ankle surgeries and corrects deformities within the scope of out-patient practice.
  • Gives advice on foot and ankle care and general wellness techniques, prescribing medications as needed.
  • Refers patients to other physicians or specialists for larger health problems.
  • Stays updated on advances in podiatric medicine through training and reading.
  • Provides podiatric support, counseling, and education for managing common podiatric illnesses.
  • Makes recommendations for promotion, commendation, or disciplinary action.
  • Consults on complex cases with the director or specialists as needed.
  • Works as part of the health care team and assists in patient education on preventive health care.
  • Demonstrates a pattern of continued learning to ensure growth as a practitioner.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, and participates in committees as required.
  • Performs duties in support of successful EHR/EPM implementation.
  • Models service excellence in all relationships and addresses service excellence deficits in staff.
  • Provides additional assistance within and outside of clinical areas as requested.
  • Must be willing to work at all locations as needed to meet patient care needs.
  • Must be willing to work all business hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
