Summary of Role: GlobalFoundries Fab 8 is seeking an experienced Etch Technologist with a strong passion for developing new technologies to expand GF’s technology portfolio with a main focus on silicon photonics. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Etch expert to take their experience to the next level by solving complex etch problems. In this role, you will be responsible for being the conduit for Etch Engineers and our leading-edge R&D programs in our most advanced fab located in Malta, New York. Extensive experience with FEOL, BEOL Etch processes and tooling are essential in this role. The individual will report to the head of new technology development in the Advanced Module Engineering (AME) organization.

Requirements

  • Education – Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D Degree in electrical / electronic / Mechanical / Microelectronics / Chemical process Engineering / Chemistry / Physics or related field.
  • Experience - Minimum 11 years of working experience in Etch Process Development, preferably in silicon photonics.
  • Skills- Knowledge and hands on experience with Etch platforms and technologies.
  • Travel - Up to 10%
  • Fluency in English Language – written & verbal.

  • Experience – Worked in automated 300mm fabrication facility.
  • Skill- Familiar with industry patent processes
  • Project management skills - i.e., the ability to innovate and execute solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, energetic and self-starter
  • Strong organizational skills along with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to run design of experiments on Etch tools independently.
  • Spearhead across product development and process integration to determine and develop next generation technology etch processes for silicon photonics.
  • Develop and execute experiments to progress R&D projects in a High-Volume Manufacturing (HVM) foundry environment.
  • Collaborate across organization including process integration to provide manufacturable etch processes to meet process assumptions and yield requirements.
  • Partner with experts across GF fabs to promote sharing and learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with equipment supplier to determine industry capabilities for silicon photonics and evaluate options applicable to GF technology roadmap
  • Coach and mentor other engineers in the organization
  • Lead cross-department taskforce and improvement projects for silicon photonics
  • Lead cross-fab benchmarking activities to engage the best-in-campus practices across fabs
  • Contribute to Intellectual Property by writing invention disclosures.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
