The Project Manager – Major Construction will coordinate activities across multiple substation projects in New York, managing resource requirements, priorities, investment plans, project execution strategies, and both internal and external resource needs. These projects may arise from reliability, asset health, system capacity, customer demand, or other project requirements. Responsibilities include achieving corporate goals for capital investment, managing Construction Work in Progress (CWIP), and ensuring the successful energization of projects. The Project Manager must optimize team performance to maximize capital budget delivery, considering environmental, operational efficiency, regulatory, and CWIP needs. In this role, you will represent the company in regulatory and public forums, coordinating the efforts of project team members, including engineers, construction managers, and external contractors. You will facilitate the work of external contractors and other internal business areas, holding them accountable for performance and results. Additionally, you will provide technical advice to senior management as needed and oversee overall project control and reporting. This includes leadership and coordination of scheduling, cost control, and reporting functions. You will ensure that projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality and engineering standards.

  • Approve project plans, execute contract strategies, and control expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with project management and quality management processes and procedures, assuring projects are completed within the approved scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate with other departments, consultants, attorneys, utilities, regulatory agencies, government agencies, and major customers.
  • Represent the company and testify in regulatory hearings or at Federal, State, or local agency or municipal meetings as needed.
  • Consider innovative ways to undertake work, promoting automation and efficiencies in day-to-day work streams.
  • Provide recommendations on policies and goals, implementing new/revised processes and procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Oversee the overall management and control of project unit budgets, including O&M and Capital.
  • Inform management and project teams regarding cost and schedule performance variances and corrective actions required.
  • Ensure the risk control system is utilized effectively.
  • Continually monitor individual progress to ensure specific deadlines are met.
  • Maintain project accountability overview, ensuring compliance with FERC, NERC, and other applicable regulations.
  • Attend and Lead Cost & Schedule Meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator on risk definition, cost, and Mitigation Action analysis.
  • Attend Executive management meetings, providing and presenting reports and cost-schedule-risk views as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant experience in the energy industry with 3-5 years relevant project management or engineering experience
  • Ability to mobilize team members to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience in integrating scheduling IT tools and software (MS Project/Primavera) with costs and resource requirements.
  • Proficient in risk management and mitigation plans.
  • Skilled in utilizing MS Excel for data analysis, budgeting, planning, and optimizing schedules.
  • Ability to use and query SAP.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong public presentation skills and the ability to summarize concepts using Microsoft Project.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on achieving targets.
  • Understanding and implementation of quality assurance processes within project structures.
  • Knowledge of the main configuration and general arrangements of networks (substations, overhead lines, and cable) infrastructures.
  • Experience in supervising field personnel and construction contractors.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make strategic decisions under pressure.
  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster relationships with stakeholders, clients, and team members
