About The Position

PLUMBING TECHNICIAN Bridgewater College seeks a Plumbing Technician. The Plumbing Technician is responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing plumbing systems and boilers, including campus steam distribution equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years of commercial, related plumbing work required.
  • Vocational/Technical training in a related field/discipline required.
  • Journeyman Licensure in plumbing required.
  • Practical and applied knowledge of materials and tools utilized in plumbing trades is required.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain plumbing systems by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
  • Install plumbing systems: Assembles, positions, and seals valves, pipe fittings, and pipes.
  • Cuts, threads, and bends pipe using cutters, cutting torches, threading machines, and bending machines.
  • Test plumbing systems by filling the system with water or gas; identify leaks.
  • Locate the position of pipes and pipe connections and passage holes using a ruler, level, and plumb bob to mark the structure.
  • Accommodate pipes and pipe fittings by cutting openings in floors and walls using hand and power tools.
  • Produce plumbing systems with established standards and procedures.
  • Study building plans and working drawings to determine the sequence of installation.
  • Inspect structures to avoid obstructions.
  • Maintain plumbing supplies and conserve plumbing resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Keep plumbing equipment and tools operational by following the established procedure and manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Comply with Federal, State, and local building/plumbing codes by enforcing adherence to requirements.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains plumbing parts and equipment inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed parts and equipment, and verifying receipt of parts and equipment.
  • Schedules and accomplishes assigned preventative maintenance programs in accordance with established directions and procedures.
  • Supports and assists other trades in repair, replacement, maintenance, and/or installation of equipment and systems components.
  • Completes automated and manual work order assignments in a timely manner with appropriate documentation and follow-up.
  • Maintains records as required.
  • Works safely from ladders and safely operates power lifts
  • Selects correct ladder for job/task.
  • Maintains knowledge and ability to safely operate power lifts.
  • As a key member of the campus snow removal and emergency response teams, responds to weather conditions maintain routine and emergency access which includes operating trucks, equipment and shovels to clear walkways, roads and parking lots of snow and ice. Often this work requires working during nonstandard shifts with short notice.
  • Event set up and take down.
  • Assist with the set-up of any College event, including chair set-up and take down, tent set up, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
