About The Position

The Plumbing Maintenance Professional serves as a technician within the Building Maintenance unit of Facilities Services at UCCS. This position supports the university’s mission by ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant plumbing systems across campus buildings. Responsibilities include performing complex plumbing maintenance and repairs, supporting construction projects, and managing preventative maintenance programs. The role interacts with campus departments, contractors, and regulatory bodies to maintain high service standards and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Must possess Journeyman Plumbers license at time of hire. Have ability to obtain State of Colorado Journeyman License or greater within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must demonstrate experience in plumbing maintenance, installation, and repair.
  • Must have ability to read building and utility prints and identify all components of a commercial building plumbing system.
  • Backflow Testing Certification or ability to pass the ABPA exam and certify within 6 months of hire is required.
  • Must possess and have ability to maintain a valid driver’s license at time of hire.
  • Must possess ability to complete physical components of the job, including ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Must possess ability to communicate effectively within the facilities department and campus stakeholders to understand needs, recommend solutions, coordinate access and scheduling ensuring customer satisfaction and efficient service delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • Have ability to obtain State of Colorado Master Plumbing License or greater within 6 months of hire date is highly desired.
  • Experience with WebTMA or similar work order systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with APPA standards and energy conservation practices is highly desired.
  • Experience supporting construction projects and reviewing technical documents is highly desired.
  • Experience in identifying deferred maintenance priorities and communicating those needs clearly is highly desired.
  • Experience with utility mandated testing and reporting procedures is preferred.
  • Experience training and mentoring others is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • (55%25) Plumbing and Mechanical Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform plumbing and mechanical maintenance for campus buildings.
  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and equipment including domestic supply and wastewater lines, heating hot water and chilled water loops, mechanical system pumps and valves, water fountains and bottle filling stations, grease and solids interceptors, bathroom and shower fixtures, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal codes.
  • Respond to Ad Hoc work orders and make appropriate comments detailing work completed to address requests.
  • Assist Manager with contractor management for plumbing related repairs and projects and provide initial troubleshooting for outsourced repairs.
  • Operate all tools and equipment required to complete daily tasks.
  • (20%25) Preventative & Predictive Maintenance
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs and related equipment inventory in accordance with department expectations and code requirements to ensure uninterrupted service for all campus plumbing systems.
  • Complete preventative maintenance work orders in WebTMA, make appropriate comments detailing the work completed, and accurately track costs associated with equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Manage and conduct timely testing and reporting of all backflow prevention devices on campus in accordance with Colorado Springs Utilities regulations.
  • Collaborate with Manager to plan, coordinate, and complete repairs based on priority and condition assessments.
  • Assist with campus building audits in support of the State of Colorado Controlled Maintenance program.
  • (10%25) Construction Project Support
  • Work with Planning, Design, and Construction teams to review construction documents and provide feedback on plumbing and mechanical systems.
  • Complete small project work to include but not limited to the modification or elimination of existing plumbing infrastructure and installation of new plumbing infrastructure.
  • Support commissioning, warranty processes, and equipment selection as a subject matter expert.
  • (5%25) Professional Development and Administrative Tasks
  • Attend yearly trainings and meetings required by the department.
  • Maintain Journeyman Plumbers license or better.
  • Assist with equipment data entry within WebTMA.
  • (5%25) Snow & Ice Mitigation
  • Operate snow removal equipment and apply de-icing materials as needed.
  • Ensure safe access to campus facilities during winter weather events.
  • (5%25) Other Duties as Assigned
  • Perform additional duties related to facilities maintenance and operations in support of campus needs as required.
