About The Position

BCIT Adult Education seeks an experienced and motivated Plumbing Instructor to teach entry-level plumbing skills to adult learners in an evening program. The course is designed to introduce students to the core concepts and hands-on skills necessary to pursue employment or apprenticeships in the plumbing trade. The instructor will deliver engaging instruction that prepares students for the workforce while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a licensed plumber or verifiable work experience in residential/commercial plumbing.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong practical and instructional skills in basic plumbing systems and practices.
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
• Ability to work evening hours as scheduled.

Nice To Haves

• NJ CTE Certification in Plumbing or ability to obtain.
• Prior teaching, apprenticeship, or workforce training experience.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach fundamental concepts of residential and light commercial plumbing, including pipe types and fittings (PVC, copper, PEX, etc.)
• Cutting, joining, and soldering techniques
• Fixture installation
• Drainage, waste, and vent systems
• Water supply systems
• Safety procedures and tool use
• Deliver hands-on training in a lab/shop environment aligned with industry practices.
• Create and implement lesson plans that align with adult learning standards and program objectives.
• Assess student learning through practical demonstrations, quizzes, and performance tasks.
• Monitor and document student attendance, participation, and progress.
• Promote job readiness skills, workplace safety, and industry expectations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe instructional space.
• Collaborate with the Adult Ed team to support program growth and student success.
