About The Position

Under general supervision; conducts field inspections on commercial and residential plumbing installation for enforcement of state and county codes and ordinances; checks building plans for plumbing system; answers inquiries and interprets plumbing codes. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Completion of a high school equivalent education.
• Current possession of an Ohio certification as a plumbing inspector issued by the State of Ohio Department of Commerce.
• Thorough knowledge of construction techniques for plumbing material installation.
• Knowledge of inspection procedures, blueprint/schematic reading, local & state plumbing codes, and department policies & procedures.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to understand technical manuals and verbal instructions associated with the trade.
• Ability to handle sensitive inquiries from officials and the general public.
• Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports.
• Ability to develop good rapport with public, builders, contractors & officials.
• Effective communication skills.
• Skills in plumbing testing equipment, procedures, and methods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections on commercial and residential plumbing installations for compliance with state and county codes and ordinances.
• Check building plans for plumbing systems.
• Answer inquiries and interpret plumbing codes.
• Approve installations or issue compliance orders to have violations corrected.
• Confer with architects, engineers, plumbing contractors, property owners, and local officials regarding installation of sanitary plumbing compliance with local or state codes.
• Respond to, investigate, and prepare follow-up information on code violation complaints.
• Attend seminars, workshops, and contractors' meetings to upgrade and maintain skills and knowledge.

Benefits

• Hourly rate range: $32.28-$32.28
