Sutton Brothers Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, & Electrical has served Kernersville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and the surrounding North Carolina neighborhoods as a local, family-owned, one-stop shop for home comfort. From HVAC repair to electric vehicle charger installation, it is our mission to earn your trust by prioritizing customer needs and delivering quality service here in the Piedmont Triad. The Plumbing Apprentice supports licensed plumbing technicians with residential service, maintenance, and installation work. This role is designed to develop technical skills through hands-on training while assisting with daily job functions across both service and installation as business needs require. The apprentice is expected to learn industry standards, safety practices, and customer service skills while progressing toward independent performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Basic understanding of plumbing tools, materials, and safety practices (or strong willingness to learn)
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn from senior technicians.
  • Safety knowledge of tools, testing devices and surroundings.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, and job-site equipment under supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an apprenticeship program.
  • Experience with modern plumbing tools and technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • OSHA certification or other safety training is a plus.
  • Possession of a personal set of plumbing tools suitable for residential installation work.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive at job sites on time and prepared, following daily assignments and dispatch instructions.
  • Assist plumbing technicians with service calls, repairs, preventative maintenance, and installation projects.
  • Support installation of piping, fixtures, water heaters, and related plumbing systems under supervision.
  • Perform basic plumbing tasks such as material handling, equipment setup, jobsite preparation, and cleanup.
  • Observe and assist with troubleshooting plumbing issues and learning proper diagnostic techniques.
  • Load, unload, and organize tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Communicate professionally with customers when appropriate and represent the company positively.
  • Maintain a clean, professional appearance and follow company customer service standards.
  • Complete required paperwork, training documentation, and daily job records as directed.
  • Follow all safety procedures, local plumbing codes, and company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned to support service or installation teams.
