About The Position

The Plumber performs skilled maintenance, repair, and installation work on plumbing systems across the University of Arkansas campus. Duties include repairing and replacing steam water heaters, instant‑on (tankless) water heaters, and rebuilding or replacing various water pumps to maintain reliable system performance. This position also performs general service and repair work on copper, cast‑iron, and other plumbing materials; installs and repairs sinks, toilets, faucets, and related fixtures; diagnoses and clears clogged drain lines. Responsibilities include completing routine and preventive maintenance to ensure plumbing systems remain efficient, safe, and code‑compliant. The Plumber works collaboratively with other trades, technicians, and university personnel to complete tasks safely and efficiently. The role requires clear communication with supervisors, stakeholders, and building occupants, as well as accurate documentation of work orders, maintenance activities, and service needs. The individual in this position must be able to work independently and as part of a team, maintain a professional and positive work environment, and demonstrate sound problem‑solving and customer‑service skills. This position is designated as weather essential and requires availability during inclement weather, emergencies, and other situations that affect campus operations. The Plumber must be capable of performing physical tasks associated with plumbing work in a variety of environments. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • Journeyman Plumber’s license in accordance with ACA 17-38-301
  • Backflow prevention certification
  • 5 or more years’ of experience in a related field (Plumber I)
  • At least seven or more years of experience in a related field (Plumber II)
  • Proven experience leading projects and driving them to successful completion (Plumber II & III)
  • At least 10 or more years of experience in a related field (Plumber III)
  • Experience overseeing large plumbing projects (Plumber III)
  • Knowledge of plumbing practices
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and assignments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds waist high, climb stairs daily, and operate basic hand tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in the workplace

Nice To Haves

  • Low-pressure boiler license
  • Experience in mechanical plumbing
