About The Position

Job Summary: Perform unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled plumbing repairs and installations . Plan, inspect, record and oversee plumbing concerns. Evaluate systems, research solutions and order repair parts and supplies. Essential Functions: 50-70% Perform all essential functions of an Assistant Plumber . Assemble, disassemble, install, replace, rebuild and maintain water, vent, drain, gas, chemical, fire sprinkler and air lines and all fixtures and devices for these lines and/or systems. 5-15% Assemble, replace, rebuild, install and maintain valves and pipe filling and pipes . Cut threads and ream pipes using various tools to code. 0-15% Fill pipe system with air and/or water and read pressure gauges to ensure proper working conditions . Maintain various plumbing systems such as garbage disposals, sump pumps and water fountains. 0-10 % Complete work, time and material usage reports . Perform other duties as assigned by superintendent/supervisor. Additional Position Information: Education: Requires high school diploma or GED. Licenses/Certifications: Valid Ohio Driver’s License. Experience: Requires completion of a 2-year University of Akron or other State Approved Sponsored Apprenticeship Program for Trade or a minimum of 5 years of plumbing trade experience. Ability to operate and use standard powered and nonpowered plumbing tools and equipment such as cutting, threading and bending machines, core hole machines, wrenches, hoisting machinery, saws, drills, main drain machines, grinders and testing gauges required . Ability to perform mathematics associated with trade applications (fractions, ratios, percentages) required . Ability to read, write, observe and accurately follow oral, written and graphic instructions required . Ability to exercise judgment in determining correct course of action when confronted with new situations . Leadership: No authority or responsibility for the supervision of others. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance and demonstrate bending, crouching and lifting. Must be able to climb ladder, scaffolding , and work on rooftops . Working Conditions: Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise, air pollution and heights . May involve exposure to chemical substances, hazards, and moving parts. Work schedule is subject to change in accordance with University needs and/or the results of the shift line-up process. Overtime/call-ins may be mandatory based on University needs .
