About The Position

GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs journeyman level work in the alteration and repair of plumbing systems and equipment in the hospital. HIPAA SECURITY COMPLIANCE: Security Access: Low “Incumbent has no access to confidential information and must comply with the terms of the Mercy Medical Center Security Policies as it applies to their job role.” ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: · In conformance with the city plumbing code, repair and perform preventative maintenance on a wide variety of plumbing systems and equipment. · Make repairs by removing, replacing and installing plumbing devices and components. Locate broken or worn equipment through inspections, observations and tests. · Test installed equipment and plumbing upon completion. · Follow blue prints and equipment literature for repairs. · Trouble shoot sprinkler systems, medical gas systems, deionized water systems, sewage systems, steams and condensate systems and equipment. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: · Work requires elementary technical training such as that which would be acquired in the first year of college or technical school. · Licensed as a journeyman plumber · Two years experience in the repair and testing and installation of plumbing equipment and systems. · Certified to install medical gas systems, preferred. · Good knowledge of theories and principles of plumbing, piping diagrams for repair and troubleshooting. · Valid Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: (Constant = 67%-100% of workday, Frequent = 34%-66% of workday, Occasional = 33% or less of workday) CONSTANT · Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. When doing painting or working on finished projects. · Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances. Carrying tools and equipment back and forth, getting around buildings. · Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm, such as holding on to tools – screw drivers, drills hammers, power tools, etc. FREQUENT · Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction while using power or hand tools, reaching to work on equipment, etc. · Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees, such as when painting. · Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers, such as wiring, turning screwdrivers. · Pushing/Pulling: Using upper extremities to press against something to force forward or backward. · Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. When moving furniture, materials or equipment from one location to another. · Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. OCCASIONAL · Feeling: Perceiving attributes to objects, such as skin, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips, as when wiring. · Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other words accurately, loudly or quickly. · Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range and being able to make find discriminations in sounds. PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS: · Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. VISUAL ACUITY REQUIREMENTS: · Working involves taking measurements, assembling parts as distances close to the eyes and inspecting work. INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: · Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with employees, residents and visitors and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment. · Adaptability to accepting responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity. · Adaptability to making generalizations, evaluations or decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria. · Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. TOOLS/EQUIPMENT: · Standard medical and nursing equipment, special equipment or office equipment found in the assigned area.
