About The Position
The Plumber/Pipefitter position at Abbott is a critical role within the Sturgis, MI facility, specifically in the Abbott Nutrition division. This position is responsible for providing skilled trade maintenance support to the manufacturing, warehouse, and office facilities, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and effectively. The role requires a commitment to maintaining compliance with industry standards, including FDA and OSHA regulations, while also adhering to Abbott's internal policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated team that plays a vital role in the production of essential nutrition products that millions of people rely on for their health and well-being. In this role, you will be tasked with inspecting, troubleshooting, and maintaining various facility and production equipment systems, particularly focusing on piping systems. This includes laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. You will select the appropriate type and size of pipe and related materials based on job specifications and your knowledge of system operations, as well as study building plans and working drawings to plan the sequence of installation to avoid obstructions. Your responsibilities will also include threading and ending pipes, assembling and joining piping using various methods, securing pipes to structures, testing and inspecting piping and pressure relief devices, and coordinating scheduled work with customers and service providers. Additionally, you will perform building walk-throughs to identify needed repairs, check and replace steam traps, and install valves and plumbing fixtures in restrooms. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of all facility operations.
