The Plumber/Pipefitter Journeyman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. This includes, but is not limited to, equipment such as: refrigeration units, air conditioners, electric motors, oil/gas heating units, heat pumps, hermetic/semi-hermetic compressors, commercial furnaces, boilers, burners, economizers, humidifiers, split systems, flame safeguard controls, air compressors, dryers, packaged units, VRF systems, chillers (air/water cooled), cooling towers, and associated pumps and fans.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with HVAC systems.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting schematics, manuals, and blueprints.
  • In-depth understanding of refrigeration cycles, component functionality, system diagnostics, and maintenance techniques.
  • Proficient with refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and charging processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of heating cycles, system troubleshooting, and gas pressure testing.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems including AC/DC circuits, Ohm’s Law, and use of multimeters.
  • Ability to read advanced electrical wiring diagrams and mechanical blueprints.
  • Understanding of psychrometrics, air properties, and air mixing using psychrometric charts.
  • Skilled in temperature and humidity control systems.
  • Familiarity with all types of HVAC systems: air-cooled, water-cooled, chilled/hot water, VAV, steam heating, and building automation controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based software.
  • Knowledge of HVAC load calculations (heating/cooling).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of HVAC service experience.
  • CT Licensed D-2 or S-2.
  • Knowledge of HVAC industry math including algebra, geometry, and formulas used in calculations for area, volume, percentages, etc.
  • Must be familiar with HVAC trade terminology and documentation.

  • Commercial experience is a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on various HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment and systems.
  • Communicate clearly with dispatch and management regarding job status, delays, or issues.
  • Notify dispatch/management of any schedule changes, delays, or absences.
  • Accurately complete all service documentation, including time sheets, repair logs, and maintenance reports.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Foster positive relationships with clients and represent the company professionally.
  • Promote repair and replacement services when appropriate.
  • Comply with company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including use of PPE.
  • Work independently or collaboratively to complete service tasks efficiently.
  • Adhere to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Install copper and PVC piping using appropriate techniques (brazing, “Pro Press” fittings).
  • Participate in training and share knowledge with coworkers.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
