Determines routing of pipe, sequence of operations, and location of such plumbing fixtures, accessories and equipment as inlets and outlets, vent pipes; valves, meters, gauges, hangers, brackets, and water, sewer, gas and air connections by following and adhering to trade practice, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and state, municipal and underwriters' standards and ordinances. Computes kind, size and amount of pipe, connections and other materials necessary when this information is not furnished by considering such factors as pressure, volume, gradient and substance being piped. Marks lines and points on walls, floors, ceilings and open areas or sets stakes to locate pipe routes, inlets, outlets, connections, fixtures and equipment. Occasionally prepares working sketch. Installs, connects and tests such sanitary plumbing fixtures as urinals, water closets, wash basins, sinks and drinking fountains; complete compressed air, fire sprinkling, steam and other pressure systems, and connects and tests such gas-fired equipment as heat treating furnaces, boilers and processing tanks. Does troubleshooting on major plumbing breakdowns by diagnosing trouble, and repairing, replacing or taking other corrective action on such items as clogged main sewer lines, main gas line breakdown, seepage contaminated water supply lines, steam equipment and devices, oxygen, hydrogen, fire sprinkling and hydraulic systems, gas-fired equipment which does not respond to routine maintenance troubleshooting. Operates and maintains butane equipment. May come into contact with Hazardous Materials or other toxic chemicals. May lay out and fabricate plumbing for such testing equipment as hydraulic test jigs and stands. Must be able to work any Shift.
