About The Position

The Plumber position, reporting to the Shop Superintendent, performs professional plumbing maintenance, repairs and related activities in the student dorms. Assignments will include heat, water, gas, drainage, sewage and other plumbing systems. This position requires driving University vehicles and golf carts. Requirements

  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency required.
  • Three years of relevant experience required.
  • In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, apprenticeship program, technical training experience required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Housing & Residential Life is a security sensitive department and this position requires a finger-print criminal background check.
  • Motor Vehicle Division check.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 years of commercial/industrial plumbing experience; or completion of a 4-year federally approved technical training program in plumbing.
  • Journeyman Plumber license.
  • Professional Plumber experience, including work with boilers, pumps and heaters.
  • Certified backflow tester.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects joints, valves, pumps, boilers, heaters, sinks, commodes, tanks, and other plumbing system components to locate malfunctions; repair or replace as necessary.
  • Operates, including but not limited to, reamers, sewer tapes, snakes and other plumbing equipment and hand tools.
  • Re-pipe building domestic water systems and sewer waste systems.
  • Maintains material inventory of equipment.
  • Performs periodic planned maintenance work as required including but not limited to exercising valves, rebuilding fixtures, cleaning drinking fountains and snaking sewers.
  • Assembles, installs, repairs and maintains heat, fan coil, water, gas, drainage, sewage and other plumbing systems per applicable codes.
  • Utilizes various documents, drawings, specifications and codes to determine proper sequencing of repairs and/or installations per applicable codes.
  • Performs facility inspections, documents work request activity and related requirements.
  • Participates in Housing Emergency On-Call Program.
  • Tests and repairs Fire Sprinkler systems.
  • Tests 5-year annual dry standpipe system.
  • Tests and repairs Backflow Assemblies.
  • Maintains plumbing.
