Plumber II - (Scotland CI)
About The Position
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting directly to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor II, this primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, alter, and repair plumbing systems and components at the journey level of the plumbing trade.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems
- Based on the nature of work performed, MAY require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement, or construction of piping systems Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
- Possessing working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of commercial plumbing, as well as safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
- Using power tools associated with plumbing trade, cutting and threading pipe, utilizing motorized and mechanical tools, and familiar with building, life, and safety codes.
- Soldering copper pipe and utilizing the standard tools and materials required for those types of procedures.
- Making material list(s) for projects and submitting to supervisor for review.
- Making up lead joints and installing various types of plastic pipe, also knowledge in replacing stainless steel and porcelain plumbing fixtures.
- Supervising semi-skilled male offenders and subject to emergency call back.
- Ensuring 24/7 staffing coverage by being scheduled to work weekends and holidays and any shift, as required.
