About The Position
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor at a medium custody male correctional facility and will provide facility maintenance support. Work is reviewed by the supervisor through inspection of work in progress and on the basis of satisfactory operation of the repaired or installed equipment. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Requirements
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
Nice To Haves
- Documented knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.
Responsibilities
- Performing journey level duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems.
- Receiving and completing routine work assignments in the location of the needed repair and assignments involving work of special or unusual nature that are accompanied by specific instructions.
- Exercising independence in performance of routine work with unprecedented assignments usually being discussed with and/or supervised by supervisor.
