The Plate Welder 1st Class position is responsible for welding steel plates and pipes in the repair and/or construction of marine vessels, industrial components, and associated equipment. The role requires the ability to comprehend and utilize blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work process instructions. Welders will perform related tasks such as cutting and grinding, repairing broken or cracked parts, filling holes, and increasing the size of metal parts. The position involves welding metal parts together using various processes including gas welding, brazing, arc welding, wire fed welding, or TIG welding. Highly skilled welders may also work with a variety of materials such as titanium, aluminum, or exotic metals in addition to steel. The role requires selecting and setting up welding equipment, executing planned welds, and examining welds to ensure they meet standards or specifications.
