About The Position

The Plasma Processing Technician is responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures and administering approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations. This role includes providing limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, promoting positive customer relations, and conducting confidential interviews with donors to assess their suitability to donate plasma. The technician will work closely with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician to respond to medically related questions and perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors. They will also notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results and explain informed consent to applicants. The technician is responsible for handling medical emergencies, managing immunization programs, ensuring accurate recording of donor data, and maintaining a clean and efficient work environment while following all health and safety policies.

Requirements

  • Active state licensure from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, naturopathic training program or medical school required.
  • Completion of a foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical school and currently licensed as a physician or certified as an EMT in the state.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a health care environment or one year of clinical experience from a vocational or nursing institution.
  • Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
  • Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.
  • Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to medically related questions from staff regarding donor suitability.
  • Perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors.
  • Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results.
  • Explain informed consent to applicant donors.
  • Handle medical emergencies at the Center.
  • Review test results and determine continued donor suitability.
  • Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization program.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment.
  • Conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
