About The Position

The Plant Utilities Engineer 1 position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). This role involves responsibilities that will be discussed during the interview process. The position is located at the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision - Training Academy in Albany, NY. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with a total of 37.5 hours per week, from 8 AM to 5 PM. This is a full-time, permanent position with no travel required.

Requirements

• Graduate of heating, HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration apprenticeship program from the U.S. Air Force.
• Enlisted machinery technician (MK) with the U.S. Coast Guard or possession of a Marine Engineer certificate.
• Enlisted power generation equipment repairer with the U.S. Army.
• Enlisted gas turbine systems technician or related roles with the U.S. Navy.
• Possession of a Merchant Mariner's Document (MMD) and experience in engine department.
• Completion of a New York State Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program.
• Possession of a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License or Stationary Engineer License.
• Bachelor's degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Marine Engineering.
• Four years of full-time hands-on experience in maintenance and operation of HVAC systems or boilers.
• Associate's degree in HVAC and two years of qualifying experience.
• Completion of an HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program or accredited technical school with two years of qualifying experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and operation of HVAC systems and boilers.
• Diagnose and repair HVAC systems or auxiliary equipment.
• Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
