About The Position
Talen Energy is looking for a candidate to fill (2) job openings for Plant Technician-Instrument and Electrical. The positions will be located at the Brandon Shores Power Plant in Baltimore, MD (Pasadena area). The positions will report to the Production Supervisor. We are looking for qualified candidates with an emphasis on instrumentation/electrical skills. The Brandon Shores Plant is a fully scrubbed coal-fired generating station. The expected salary range for this position is $95,000.00 to $115,000.00 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Primary Purpose & Summary: Performs tests on new and in-service equipment such as cables, power transformers, circuit breakers, and motors. Performs troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and maintenance on a variety of electrical/ pneumatic control equipment for power plant equipment, both AC & DC, with voltages of 125V, 250V, 480V. Performs tests on new and in-service equipment such as DCS (Ovation), Continuous Emissions Monitors, Instrumentation, PLCs (Allen Bradley), and water chemistry equipment. Performs troubleshooting, testing, repairing, maintenance, and calibrations on a variety of equipment and controls for power plant equipment, both AC & DC, with voltages of 24/48Vdc and 120 Vac.
Requirements
- Proficient at reading and understanding electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&ID’s and one-line drawings.
- Able to use test equipment such multimeters, process calibrators and pneumatic equipment. General knowledge of process controls.
- Understands the operation and use of Programmable Logic Control (PLC).
- Has a working knowledge of multimeters, process calibrators and pneumatic equipment.
- Inputs data into a work management system (Maximo).
- Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Establishes and maintains a cooperative and effective working relationship with others.
- Able to respond to unplanned call-ins, weekend work, work schedule changes.
- Satisfactory completion of post-high school courses in AC & DC electrical theory/equipment applications or over five years related work experience (e.g., evaluation and testing of generating plant and substation power equipment) or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
- Experience in report preparation.
- Working knowledge of mathematics and ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
- Knowledge and application of safety procedures and practices involving work on and around high voltage equipment.
- Demonstrated reliability and responsibility and the ability to make quick and effective technical decisions.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to meet Company driving standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment utilizing a variety of test equipment and tools.
- Performs Critical Instrument Calibrations.
- Performs troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the Continuous Emissions Monitors
- Performs switching of circuit breakers and transformers.
- Performs lock out/tag out of electrical equipment in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Works with AC & DC electrical equipment.
- Subject to rotating shift work, holiday and weekend work in addition to short overtime notice.
