About The Position

The MR Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and monitoring of the Metal Recovery (MR) Plant within the slag processing yard. This role ensures proper plant start-up, operation, shutdown, inspection, and housekeeping while maintaining strict compliance with safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and environmental standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Valid Driver’s License
Willingness to work in a Steel Mill

Nice To Haves

Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Safely start, operate, monitor, and shut down the MR Plant following established operating sequences and procedures.
Maintain continuous monitoring of plant operations with particular attention to Conveyor belt tracking and condition, feeders, surge bins, hoppers, crushers, screens, and stackers
Identify operational issues and initiate appropriate shutdown and maintenance procedures when problems are detected.
Coordinate with plant loader operators to regulate material feed and ensure smooth plant operation.
Follow all lockout/tagout procedures prior to performing or assisting with maintenance activities.
Perform and document required pre-shift and post-shift inspections of all assigned mobile and stationary equipment prior to and after operations.
Communicate plant start-up, shutdown, and operational status
Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations
