About The Position

Airgas is hiring for a Plant Operator (Cylinder Loader/Filler) in Ankeny, IA. This role is responsible for safely handling and filling gas products into liquid, medical, and high-pressure gas cylinders, adhering to federal, state, and local regulations, and Airgas's standard operating procedures. The operator will also ensure all safety standards are met during the loading and unloading of cylinder gases. The position involves performing cylinder analyses, supporting alignment with government and company standards, calculating gas mixtures to meet quality standards, and documenting results. It requires identifying and coordinating cylinder and valve combinations for compatibility and compliance, operating control panels, valves, pressure gauges, and scales with precision for gas mixtures. The operator must complete all relevant records to accurately capture production actions and uphold company procedures and government regulations for safe handling of hazardous materials. Additionally, the role involves safely operating a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse/material-handling equipment, and loading/unloading cylinders on/off pallets, ensuring they are strapped in. Requirements

  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Lives by Airgas safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, procedures which are applicable to this position's responsibilities.
  • A minimum of 1 year of related technical experience.
  • In lieu of specific industry experience, may accept an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience utilizing SAP or similar ERP system preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite or Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent.

Responsibilities

  • Safely handling and filling gas products into liquid, medical and high pressure gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and meeting the standard operating procedures of Airgas.
  • Meeting all safety standards in the loading and unloading of cylinder gases per Airgas procedures.
  • Performs cylinder analyses & supports alignment with government and company standards.
  • Calculates gas mixtures to contribute to quality standards and documents results.
  • Ensures that a mixture can be safely made.
  • Identifies and coordinates cylinder and valve combinations to ensure compatibility with the mix and compliance.
  • Operates control panels, containing valves and pressure gauges, and scales with a precision-oriented approach to gas mixtures.
  • Completes all meaningful records to accurately capture all production actions.
  • Upholds and promotes company procedures and government regulations relating to the safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Safely operates a forklift, pallet jack and other warehouse/material-handling equipment.
  • Loads/unloads cylinders on/off pallets; ensuring they are strapped in.
  • Contributing to team success as needed.
