About The Position

The Plant Operator (Cylinder Filler) is responsible for performing various tasks related to the production and repackaging of compressed and liquefied gases. This includes sorting empty cylinders for refilling, conducting prefill inspections, and examining returned cylinders for defects. The operator will safely handle and fill gas products into various types of cylinders while adhering to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Airgas standard operating procedures. Responsibilities also include loading and unloading cylinders, operating forklifts, and maintaining a clean work environment. The role requires conducting safety checks, filling cylinders according to regulations, and managing paperwork in compliance with DOT, FDA, and OSHA standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of prior experience in a manufacturing operation, filling or loading experience preferred.
  • Strong background in gas, welding, and safety supply industry or chemical industry preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform basic math operations and safely operate a forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Sorts empty cylinders for refilling and performs prefill inspections.
  • Examines returned cylinders for surface defects and rolls them to designated work areas.
  • Safely handles and fills gas products into various types of cylinders.
  • Loads and unloads gas cylinders onto and off of route trucks and trailers.
  • Sorts empty cylinders by type and operates a forklift for movement.
  • Understands hazards of various gases and accurately labels cylinders.
  • Prepares high pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling.
  • Conducts safety checks and fills cylinders by pressure and weight.
  • Manages paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards.
  • Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly plant appearance.
