About The Position
The Plant Operations Internship at American Foods Group is a comprehensive, hands-on program designed for students who are eager to gain real-world experience in the meat processing industry. This internship spans approximately 12 weeks, from May to August, and offers a full-time commitment. Interns will be deeply involved in the day-to-day production activities, contributing to the manufacturing of millions of pounds of beef annually. Participants will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced employees, gaining insights into various operational aspects, including Harvest (Barn, Hide-On, Hide-Off, and Variety Meats) and Fabrication (Boning and Packaging). Throughout the internship, interns will engage in a variety of learning opportunities, such as collaborating with supervisors and employees across different departments to understand daily production operations. They will be tasked with identifying trends and making recommendations to improve plant processes and operations. Additionally, interns will partner with management to develop and implement actions that protect company assets and profitability, as well as set policies and procedures. This role is not just about observation; interns will actively develop managerial skills by leading and motivating team members, interpreting and enforcing company policies, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production goals. Interns will also be involved in critical areas such as employee safety, food quality, and humane handling practices, ensuring that operations run smoothly and ethically. Completing projects assigned by mentors will further enhance their learning experience, providing practical applications of their academic knowledge. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the food processing business, develop essential skills, and potentially earn academic credits through a supervised educational internship.
