About The Position

The Plant Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Plant Services in engineering, custodial, and minor maintenance at selected facilities. This includes starting, stopping, and observing all equipment interconnected with air conditioning and heating systems, ensuring safety, security, cleanliness, and the overall appearance of various facilities. The position may require extended or on-call work hours due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational routines.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of progressively increasing experience in custodial services.
  • Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture creator that can inspire and motivate.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.
  • Collaborative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision-making and results.
  • Maintain a valid Louisiana drivers’ license.
  • Knowledge of driving laws, interpreting traffic signals, signs.
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED/Hi Set
  • Two years of experience in a mechanical trade.
  • Two years of college with 48 credit hours earned.

Responsibilities

  • Open building in morning; secure building in afternoon.
  • Operate heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Ensure rooms are properly ventilated.
  • Replace light globes or fluorescent tubes.
  • Receive supplies, check inventory, request janitorial supplies, and supply custodial staff (excluding cafeteria or stadium).
  • Report vandalism immediately to principal and maintain reports.
  • Check firefighting equipment and playground equipment for good functioning and safety.
  • Repair, remove or secure any unsafe equipment, reporting same to principal.
  • Cut and maintain school yard and shrubs, watering regularly.
  • Remove trash and debris from premises.
  • Buff floor when appropriate.
  • Maintain cleanliness of halls and entrances during the day.
  • Clean classroom units as specified in accordance with work schedule and specified school needs.
  • Be available for school and school sponsored activities.
  • Set up for assemblies, conferences, plays, programs when required.
  • Supervise custodial staff, inspect their work, assign duties, keep and report the time for self and personnel, etc. in coordination with principal.
  • Perform light maintenance functions, including minor repairs such as replacing faucet handles, light switches, door knobs and door adjustments, glass repairs, painting, etc. for all buildings on school plant.
  • Be responsible to carry and answer a system-issued iPhone before, during and after normal work hours due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational routine.
  • Maintain files and operate computer and other machines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Plant Services.
