American Wood Fibers (AWF), a rapidly growing manufacturer of consumer and industrial products sold to other manufacturers and to pet, agricultural and home heating markets, seeks a Plant Manager based at our Laurinburg, NC location. AWF manufactures at 10 locations spanning the nation, has over 400 employees and generates over $100M in annual sales revenue. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following: I. SAFETY: Takes the lead role in plant safety committee and promotes safety and safe working habits on a daily basis. Responsible for safety, cleanliness and good housekeeping of entire plant with emphasis on meeting OSHA standards. Conducts or assists in regular safety meetings on a monthly basis or as needed. II. OPERATIONS & TRANSPORTATION: Responsible for general planning, directing, monitoring and supervision of all plant activities including; production, maintenance, shipping and receiving, inventory management, and special projects, to achieve the safest and most efficient operations possible within established budget guidelines. Strives to achieve balance between production and sales within the plant capabilities and raw material flow. Accountable for manufacturing costs, inventory levels, repairs, operating methods and effective use of labor-hours, skills, machines, equipment and facilities. Provide oversight for the facility’s physical assets, personnel and equipment. Ensure efficient shipping of orders and raw material deliveries. Work with Sales to provide cost effective freight rates, timely schedules, and inventory information. Coordinates programs as they relate to operations, such as manufacturing methods and engineering, cost reductions, preventive and regular maintenance, training, and safety. III. QUALITY: Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees, office personnel and customers. Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed. Ensure finished product and shipments meet quality standards. IV. PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS: Completes and presents performance evaluations for plant personnel. May recommend promotions or transfers of personnel. Verifies accuracy of time cards for payroll. Monitors attendance of subordinates as well as compliance to policies, rules and regulations. Recommends and implements disciplinary action as required. V. STAFF Provide training, mentorship, and development to all direct reports. Build up staff capabilities and develop long term succession planning. VI. QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations and maintenance. Basic understanding of LEAN principles and philosophy. Previous experience/strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with a basic understanding of financial and accounting practices Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies Demonstrated ability to motivate/lead, assess and develop employee skills Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs Highly motivated, results oriented, driven and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Some light travel as needed (less than 10%). REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant management experience. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
