About The Position

As the leader of the plant management team, the Plant Manager, Hexacomb is responsible for providing direction to the administrative and production functions within their respective plant in order to deliver a cost efficient and high-quality product to the customer. The Plant Manager, Hexacomb sets the strategic direction and momentum for their multiple shift operation to meet the division and corporate wide goals. The Plant Manager, Hexacomb accomplishes this by directing the work of production supervisors, customer service representatives, schedulers, and maintenance supervisors. Dimensions Hexacomb is the largest manufacturer of paper honeycomb in the United States. Hexacomb is an ideas and solutions company. We are a leader in helping our customers package, transport, and display products of all kinds. In 2017, our nine Hexacomb manufacturing plants sold 400 million square feet (MMSF) of honeycomb product.The profitability of each plant varies from $550,000 (smallest) to $6.5 million (largest). The average plant will produce 500 million square feet of honeycomb a year along with 3,500 tons of core. In addition, each plant has a converting operation that includes slitting, die cutting and assembly. A typical Hexacomb plant will have a workforce from 20 to 70 employees.Each Hexacomb plant serves customers within a market radius of 300 or more miles. Our customer spectrum spans food, beverage, agriculture, office furniture, and paper mills to automotive companies. As such, Hexacomb develops and processes almost 2000 designs annually.Principle Accountabilities Set the strategic direction and momentum for the manufacturing function in the plant. Oversee, direct, and implement strategy to optimize overall production, materials, and customer service to meet production and sales requirements efficiently and effectively, while staying within budgetary limits. Review analyses of activities, cost, operations, and forecast data to determine manufacturing progress toward stated goals and objectives. Manage all manufacturing functions to meet production goals and minimize unscheduled downtime. Evaluate and recommend capital projects to ensure plant profitability with Hexacomb management and the engineering development team. Oversee the hiring, training, career development and performance evaluation of employees. Review overall production performance, identify opportunities, make recommendations for process and equipment improvement, and establish and execute goals. Maintain a clean, safe, and injury-free work environment by ensuring health and safety procedures are understood and executed by all employees. Ensure predictive and preventive maintenance programs are accomplished and repairs are completed on a timely basis so that production and profitability objectives are met. Know and follow policies and procedures of the company, share information that would benefit other members of the team, and find ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers. Decision Making The Plant Manager, Hexacomb is expected to exercise high-level decision making based on a variety of information provided through various sources. The Plant Manager, Hexacomb sets the strategic direction and momentum for the location. This position is responsible for the meeting a set of production goals and quotas of the assigned plant and is expected to make decisions that fit within budgeted parameters and performance objectives. The Plant Manager, Hexacomb is expected to exercise independent judgment, conduct research, make recommendations, and lead multiple departments with limited direction and/or supervision. As a company representative the Plant Manager, Hexacomb must exercise discretion realizing their interactions with vendors and customers must be in accordance with PCA policies and ethics. Interactions with Customers and Contacts Internally, the Plant Manager, Hexacomb interacts with Hexacomb administration and plant personnel from production, customer service and finance. The Plant Manager, Hexacomb is expected to develop solid working relationships with these individuals to increase plant and department interactions and overall communication efforts. The Plant Manager, Hexacomb is responsible for overseeing staff to provide training and mentoring. Externally, the Plant Manager, Hexacomb may need to interact with customers and vendors to develop solid working relationships.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply management operations or related analytical field required.
  • Ten (10) years of previous experience in paper and packaging industry.
  • Seven (7) years of previous experience in a supervisory capacity at a paper and packaging manufacturing facility.
  • Established knowledge of paper and packaging manufacturing machinery, concepts, practices, and procedures including continual improvement processes and safety practices.
  • Previous experience in coaching, training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead and communicate with production team and management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all individuals at all levels throughout the company.
  • Strong listening, evaluating, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create alternative solutions and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems including experience with word processing and spreadsheet software as well as experience with manufacturing systems including shop floor software.
  • Solid analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing assignments, and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.
