About The Position

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery, tools, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems using journeyman level skills. The role requires considerable initiative and ingenuity to perform various tasks under periodic supervision. The technician will visually inspect and test machinery, listen for unusual sounds to detect malfunctions, dismantle defective machines, clean and lubricate machinery parts, and install or repair electrical apparatus. The technician will also maintain the physical structure of the establishment, operate machine tools, and work as an active team member to improve processes and productivity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery, tools, and equipment to assure proper working condition.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions.
  • Dismantles defective machines, tools, and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, including facility plumbing.
  • Repairs and maintains the physical structure and appearance of the establishment.
  • Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other structures.
  • Participates in problem solving and team building activities.
  • Trains other employees in maintenance and repair functions.
  • Maintains and repairs machines, tools, equipment, and the physical plant.
  • Communicates any problems or concerns regarding maintenance or repair issues.
  • Adheres to safety requirements and enforces company safety rules.
