Hiring decision is contingent upon applicant clearing checks. Purpose To develop journey-level skills through training on skilled work within the specific trade assignment. Responsible for learning skills in the operation, maintenance and repair of the trade assignment, and to perform such work to the limit of their experience.

Requirements

  • Diploma (High School) or GED.
  • Two years of experience in skilled level repair and maintenance of electrical, industrial, mechanical or utility distribution equipment.

  • Five years of experience in skilled water meter repairs and testing.
  • Five years of experience in skilled pump repairs and maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting basic electrical motor control components.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing, steam and pump and metering related utility systems.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas.
  • Clean shop areas and maintain shop equipment and vehicles.
  • Inform appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies and take appropriate action as needed.
  • Work in conjunction with trades or craft personnel in support of systems within power plant, chilling stations, utility tunnels or other underground utilities.
  • Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks incidental to the operation of mechanical, tunnel and other plumbing related distribution systems in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain records of equipment repair and inventories.
  • May complete work orders using automated maintenance program systems.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
  • Perform work in accordance with normal trade practices to pass inspection for conformity to standards, quality and quantity by journey-level employees or supervisors.
  • Attend staff meetings, safety training and meetings.
  • Attend job related training and complete assigned training modules.
  • Training certification required within 18 months.
  • Follow all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, and identify and report safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform work tasks in a safe manner, wear the proper personnel protective equipment, and report near misses and incidents to appropriate personnel.
  • Carry a UT-provided cell phone during work hours and respond to calls received.
  • Drive a UT vehicle and maintain an acceptable driving record required by UT System Policy UTS157.
