About The Position

Performs skilled labor in the installation, maintenance and repair of City Water Plants and equipment; maintains and adjusts equipment to meet job specifications and technical codes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and one year of technical maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain a Class D Water license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in five months
  • Ability to obtain a Class C license within nine months of meeting TCEQ requirements OR ability to obtain Millwright I classification within nine months

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled labor in the installation, maintenance and repair of Water plant equipment and components
  • Reads and interprets technical manuals
  • Assists with maintenance of facilities and grounds
  • Checks facilities and equipment to verify proper operating conditions and identify maintenance needs
  • Repairs equipment and components and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical and electromechanical equipment and components as directed
  • Repairs and adjusts equipment and components
  • Verifies equipment functions meet job specifications and technical codes
  • Performs maintenance activities within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures
  • Notifies supervisors of problems beyond the scope of authority
  • Maintains Water plant work areas in a safe and orderly condition
  • Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures
  • Identifies and reports vehicle and equipment problems requiring additional repair
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed
  • Reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations
  • Cleans up and stores hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures
  • Responds to emergencies as needed
  • Cross-trains in proper work methods and safety procedures
  • Maintains daily work logs and records of maintenance services performed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required
