About The Position

Evergy is recruiting candidates for a Plant Helper at our Hawthorn Generating Station located in Kansas City, Mo. This position involves performing manual labor related to plant cleanup, cinder disposal, fuel handling, and general maintenance of buildings and grounds. The role requires assisting maintenance crafts or operations personnel as needed, driving trucks and forklifts, and performing janitorial work in the plant office. The Plant Helper will also be required to use power tools as appropriate and will have opportunities to promote into boiler or fuel operations departments as part of a career progression.

Requirements

• Must be licensed to drive as required by state law.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be mechanically inclined and capable of absorbing training necessary for qualifications in higher jobs in boiler operations or fuel operations department.
• Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) aptitude test is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual labor in connection with plant cleanup, cinder disposal, fuel handling, and general building and grounds maintenance.
• Assists maintenance crafts or operations personnel when needed.
• Assists in storeroom or drives trucks and forklift when needed.
• Cleans area in plant office and does other janitorial work as assigned.
• Uses power tools as appropriate in performing the duties and tasks of the plant helper position.
• Promotes into boiler or fuel operations departments in a line of progression.
