About The Position

Working in our Plant Health Care program will allow you an opportunity to work across the Park Operations Division, helping to complete plant health care needs within Forestry, Open Space, Horticulture, and Turf Grass. This program plays a key role in completing trunk injections of public ash trees, pre-emergent herbicide applications, and weed management, and provides a unique experience in learning more about managing the health of plants in our city landscapes. This is a very fast-paced position within our department, providing a critical service to protect and enhance our valuable natural resources and public parks. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years or older.
  • Applicants must be able to successfully pass a drug screen, background check, and, if required for the specific position, a physical examination.
  • Ability to maintain a great work ethic while working outside all day.
  • Ambition and a desire to learn.
  • Passion for outdoor recreation.
  • Effective communication and active listening skills.
  • Proclivity for processes and procedures.
  • Experience with yard maintenance tools and equipment is great, but we will train.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to work early mornings.
  • Applicants should be able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the health of public trees and control the vegetation within the landscape areas of Grand Junction public spaces.
  • Restore natural spaces along the Riverfront Trail, the Kindred Reserve, spaces in the Ridges, and other trails near the base of the Colorado National Monument.
  • Mixing, handling, and application of pesticide and herbicide chemical products.
  • Maintaining organized and detailed records.
  • Assistance with the greater needs of Parks and Recreation, as needed.
