About The Position

We’re hiring a skilled Plant Electrician to support the safe and reliable operation of our water utilities systems. This hands-on role focuses on installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment, including motors, drives, and control systems, in a plant environment. You’ll play a key role in preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and ensuring critical infrastructure runs efficiently. Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems and controls.
  • Ability to fully utilize, read, interpret, update and create complex electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, Redlines, prints, plans and drawings.
  • Ability to accurately troubleshoot and repair complex motor controls and a large variety of critical electro-mechanical systems
  • Strong knowledge of National Electric Code, state and local requirements for the installation and maintenance of industrial-related electrical systems.
  • Proficient with testing equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Proficient Problem-solving and diagnostic abilities for complex issues.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical circuits from 24VDC to 480VAC.
  • Solid Working knowledge of Utilities, Water Treatment, Water System Operations, Wastewater Collection principles, operations and maintenance of systems, including the equipment and programs used to operate and maintain these systems, and pumping systems and associated hydraulics factors.
  • Proficient Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical control systems and instrumentation.
  • Strong experience in reading blueprints, electrical schematics, and maps.
  • Strong experience in mechanical and electrical modification /repair of system equipment.
  • Working knowledge and ability in the use, tuning and development of PID controls.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.

  • Six (6) or more years’ experience in electrical service and construction required.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.

  • State of Colorado Master Electrician License.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and equipment for both new and rework projects as well as for ongoing maintenance.
  • Reads and interprets electrical, mechanical, redlines, and control drawings, electrical code specifications and schematics in order to effectively troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment.
  • Create redline drawings as needed to record electrical/control changes
  • Utilize test equipment to troubleshoot/Diagnoses, and repairs malfunctioning systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot and/or replaces sensors, controllers, control devices/components, MCCs, Variable Frequency Drives, pumps, mixers, and motors.
  • Performs preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment and components.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
  • Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.
  • Performs duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, permits, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Works on other projects as required.
  • Performs emergency repairs and services including general electrical and plant failures.
  • Installs, maintains and operates Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and communication operating systems.
  • Repairs control panels, starters, control sensors/components, pumps, mixers, chemical feed equipment, etc.; ensures the maintenance of consistent system performance levels to ensure all processes continue to perform to meet all CDPHE/EPA regulation.
  • Performs and on occasion leads coworkers in the maintenance, repair, calibrations and troubleshooting of all equipment, variable frequency drives, MCCs, process control systems utilized by the Utilities Department
  • Communicates with supervision and/or coworkers on system needs and assignments, Informs Management and/or Supervision of systems repair and inventory needs.
  • Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment for self and co-workers, follows city’s safety procedures and policies.
  • Responds to emergency situations, whether in the regular workday or afterhours.
  • Participates on afterhours call schedule for Plant and field EMT/SCADA related issues.
  • Responds internal customer concerns/requests promptly, provides effective services or solutions for customers.
  • Demonstrating a respectful attitude towards customers co-workers
  • Require “on-call” status and/or 24/7 responsiveness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
