About The Position

The Plant Electrical Engineer ensures the safe, reliability, and efficient operation of all plant electrical systems. This role supports design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements for electrical equipment, controls, and power distribution. The engineer develops and manages preventive maintenance programs, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides technical support for 24/7 operations. Additional responsibilities include managing electrical projects and budgets, conducting root cause analyses, and collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to improve plant performance.

Requirements

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new applications.
  • Strong understanding of computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build relationships, recognize contributions, and maintain high standards of integrity.
  • Competencies: detail-oriented, problem-solving, organizational skills, and managerial courage.
  • Experience using production databases and software to document processes and plan maintenance/upgrade schedules.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, including large outage planning and execution.
  • Must be able to support a 24/7 operation, including availability for on-call support.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant’s electrical systems, including design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, control systems, and power distribution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for AC drive reliability, predictive, and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits of electrical systems and equipment; troubleshoot issues; and develop preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements through inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee installation, repairs, and upgrades of electrical systems; manage related projects; and collaborate with maintenance and operations teams.
  • Assist in developing capital project programs, including budget management and cross-functional coordination to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Design, adapt, and implement improvements to plant electrical systems to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies to drive process and system optimization.
  • Participate in Operations/BOD and Maintenance call teams as assigned.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implement corrective solutions, including process design modifications.
  • Manage and support electrical systems within assigned process areas or mill-wide infrastructure, including specialized mill equipment when required.
  • Provide training to mill supervisors (train-the-trainer) on new or modified equipment.
  • Report directly to the Maintenance & Engineering Manager.
  • Manages E&I Supervisor, vendors and contractors
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
