Plant Controller — Custom Job‑Shop Manufacturing A day in the role Morning begins on the production floor in St. Charles, IL, where you review overnight output and scan dashboards for cost and variance signals. By mid-morning, you’re partnering with operations to unpack labor, material, and overhead variances on active jobs. After lunch, you mentor a tight-knit accounting team, finalize journal entries and reconciliations, and drive a disciplined month-end close — targeting three days. You’ll close the afternoon shaping the ERP transition workstream, aligning cost structures, and mapping processes to bring select outsourced activities back under the roof. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Deep manufacturing accounting experience; job shop/custom manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Advanced cost accounting skill set (standard vs. actual, variances, BOMs).
  • Experience leading or mentoring a small accounting team.
  • Hands-on mastery of daily accounting and month-end close.
  • A strong sense of ownership and urgency.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA (active or previously held).
  • Payroll and tax filing experience.
  • ERP implementation or migration exposure; Epicor is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead job costing and plant cost accounting — from BOM integrity to standard vs. actual analysis.
  • Deliver rigorous variance analysis across labor, materials, and overhead.
  • Own journal entries, account reconciliations, and a fast month-end close (3-day target).
  • Oversee AP, AR, and Payroll/HR functions with strong controls and compliance.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and effective internal controls.
  • Support the ERP transition and drive process optimization across the finance stack.
  • Plan and lead the transition of select outsourced work back in-house.
