About The Position

The Plant Accounting Supervisor at Smithfield Foods, Inc. is responsible for overseeing the accounting functions within the plant, ensuring accurate reporting, departmental spending analysis, and month-end close activities. This role involves supervising Plant Accounting Coordinators and ensuring timely completion of yield, inventory, and labor reports. The position also requires creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOM) for product costing and supporting various accounting functions across the plant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • 2+ years of professional accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a lead role providing training, guidance, or mentoring to less experienced staff.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to use Excel for data manipulation and creating simple formulas.
  • Experience with SAP is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within an accounting department.
  • Familiarity with corporate accounting policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Compile data from various sources to prepare daily reports in Excel including Yield Reports, Daily Pack Report, OPS Report, and Labor Report.
  • Perform month-end activities including journal entries, plant variance, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist in measuring and explaining plant variances and operating costs on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Ensure adherence to Corporate policy regarding Bill of Material audits and Fixed Asset reviews.
  • Provide backup and support to other Accounting staff in yield reporting, finished goods inventory, payroll, and other areas as assigned.
  • Spend up to 20% of time on the production floor to understand processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate and prepare weekly and monthly packaging, ingredients, and MRO cycle counts, investigating and resolving discrepancies with the Purchasing department.
