About The Position

The Planning & Protection Engineer position at FirstEnergy involves assisting distribution engineers with circuit modeling and analysis tools. This role is crucial for maintaining safety, providing technical support, and contributing to various engineering tasks within the Energy Delivery Support team. The position is remote and can be based at any FirstEnergy location in select states, focusing on enhancing operational efficiency and customer service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum of three to five years of engineering experience.
  • Advanced degree or certification is a plus; PE preferred.
  • Previous experience in distribution planning and protection job functions is preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of technical products and customer needs.
  • Expert-level analytical and technical abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools and experience with SAP, CYME, LFDMS, EMS, TOAD/SQL, and GISView is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to make formal technical presentations.
  • Strong technical analysis and writing abilities.
  • Ability to lead by example and coach others in decision making.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or certification in engineering.
  • Experience with specific technical tools such as SAP, CYME, and GISView.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based on knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations.
  • Providing high-level service and support surrounding technical subject matter to leadership and peers using standard planning and protection tools.
  • Guiding the use of Energy Delivery Operations Services systems and processes.
  • Supporting annual engineering tasks such as Capital Portfolio development and review process, Summer Readiness, and Distribution System Assessment.
  • Conducting technical research analysis and interpreting results.
  • Assisting in implementation activities involving complex processes and procedures.
  • Developing alternatives and recommendations for solutions.
  • Offering ideas to improve technical processes and projects.
  • Providing sound customer service by exceeding internal customer needs.
  • Proactively seeking ways to add value within scope of assignments.
  • Anticipating and delivering results on job-specific subject matters.
  • Supporting operating company personnel through webcasts, workshops, and training.
  • Improving technical programs and process effectiveness independently.
  • Offering advice, education, and encouragement to others.
  • Championing continuous improvement teams and initiatives across FirstEnergy.
  • Integrating strategic concepts into business unit activities and providing strategic direction.
  • Serving in a leadership role for the development of designated programs and policies.
  • Developing process improvements and efficiencies to enhance work products and processes.
  • Directing others on technical subject matters.
  • Supporting the storm response process in various roles.
