About The Position

This position will primarily be responsible for oversight of child welfare services, monitor or investigate complaints received regarding services provided to children and families for the purpose of providing quality control and quality improvement of public and private agencies in Oklahoma. The individual must be able to professionally, effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with those filing complaints and others involved in each case. The individual must be able to review the issues of the complaint with the context of appropriate statutes, child welfare polices/procedures, and best practices as well as identify violations and/or areas of concern. The position may require traveling to juvenile facilities and other locations for record reviews, inspections, and interviews. This position will document the work activities completed and the findings in the agency datasystem. It is critical that this individual be proficient in writing reports, letters, memos, etc. that clearly identify the issues of concern and findings. The individual will prepare reports regarding cases of child death and near deaths that may be shared with the public. The position may answer the OJSO complaint phone line during office hours, gathering initial case information from complainants, from time-to-time. The position will carry out other department/agency duties as assigned by supervisor or OCCY administration.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, a social or behavioral science, or a related field or a juris doctorate; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with social service and/or justice related statutes, policies, and procedures
  • Five years of professional experience or expertise in primarily child welfare, juvenile justice, disability, mental health, education, or law
  • Knowledge of child welfare, child welfare investigating and permanency policy, juvenile justice, and/or youth mental health systems, statutes, and related agency policies
  • Knowledge of effective methods for interviewing and investigating cases involving children/youth
  • Ability to effectively communicate in spoken word with complainants and others
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Ability to identify, interpret and apply licensing requirements, accreditation standards, contractual language, state and federal law, and agency policy and procedure of multiple agencies related to children’s social services
  • Ability to conduct evaluations of complex systemic investigations of the children and youth service system
  • Possess cultural humility and a willingness to continually learn
