The Planning & Optimization Engineer at Marathon Petroleum Corporation will support the North Region's refinery operations by coordinating commercial aspects, optimizing supply chains, and analyzing market dynamics. This role requires collaboration with various teams to develop and execute regional value chain operating plans, utilizing modeling and optimization tools to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Coordinates the commercial aspects of regional refinery operations, including feedstock selection, product and intermediate placement, supply chain optimization, and market analysis.
  • Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of refinery operations, economics, and market dynamics, developing strategies to capture missed opportunities and close production optimization gaps.
  • Sets up, completes, analyzes, and presents project support cases.
  • Collaborates with team members to execute project support tasks effectively, analyzing data, identifying issues, and proposing solutions with guidance.
  • Collaborates with Feedstock and Product Commercial teams, Refining, and Logistics organizations to ensure alignment of short- and medium-term operating objectives and plans.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of various modeling and optimization tools and processes, including forecasting and post-audit tools.
  • Utilizes optimization tools to collaborate in cross-organizational teams for optimizing feedstock selection, logistics, operating plans, and product distribution.
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of regional value drivers and optimization mechanisms across the value chain.
  • Coordinates the development of the five-year business plan material balance and supports project justification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Three (3) years relevant experience in Technical Services or Economics & Planning.
  • Previous Linear Programming (LP) modeling experience is strongly preferred.
