About The Position

The Planning & Optimization Engineer at Marathon Petroleum Corporation will support the North Region by coordinating the commercial aspects of regional refinery operations. This role involves optimizing feedstock selection, product placement, and supply chain processes while collaborating with various teams to ensure alignment with operational objectives. The engineer will also develop and maintain modeling and optimization tools to enhance decision-making and project justification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Three (3) years relevant experience. Technical Services or Economics & Planning experience.
  • Previous Linear Programming (LP) modeling experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the commercial aspects of regional refinery operations, including feedstock selection, product and intermediate placement, supply chain optimization, and market analysis.
  • Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of refinery operations, economics, and market dynamics. Develops and communicates strategies that capture missed opportunities and closes production optimization gaps.
  • Sets up, completes, analyzes, and presents project support cases.
  • Demonstrates understanding of refinery operations and commercial aspects of projects. Able to analyze data, identify issues, and propose solutions with guidance.
  • Collaborates with team members to execute project support tasks effectively.
  • Collaborate with Feedstock and Product Commercial teams, Refining, and Logistics organizations in the development and execution of regional value chain operating plans ensuring short- and medium-term operating objectives and plans are aligned.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of various modeling and optimization tools and processes, including forecasting, lookback and post-audit tools and processes.
  • Utilize optimization tools and processes to collaborate in cross-organizational teams to optimize feedstock selection, logistics, operating plans, and product distribution.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of regional value drivers, and optimization mechanisms across the value chain.
  • Coordinate the development of the five-year business plan material balance and support project justification.
